We had a little drama in our house this past week. Maddox ended up in the hospital for 2 1/2 days. It all started Monday (11/1). He went to bed Sunday night with out any symptoms. He was his normal self. Monday he woke up earlier than everyone else complaining of stomach pain and was just crying. I noticed that he was having a little trouble breathing. I decided that I would take him to the doctor as soon as it open at 8. When we got to the doctor we got checked in and the nurse did the normal checking, pulse, temp and the other things. When she checked his pulse ox thing it was low so she wanted to take it again. It was at 82 (normal is about 95). His fingers nails and toe nails were turning purple because he wasn't getting enough oxygen. She went and got the doctor and he got oxygen turned on for him and sent for an ambulance. He wanted us to go by ambulance so Maddox could get right in the ER instead of having to sit in the waiting room forever. Maddox was a trooper. He did everything he was asked, even though he wasn't feeling well.
Maddox was in the ER for a couple of hours. Sleeping through most of it when he wasn't being poked or anything. When they gave him an IV he was a brave boy. He made a small whimper sound, but didn't move at all and didn't cry. He had to have a little red light on his finger to see how much oxygen he was getting. We called his own light saber. He thought that was pretty cool. I like this picture because he was feeling so aweful at the time, but as soon as I pulled out the camera, he showed me his finger and he even smiled, behind the breathing treatment he got.
They sent him up to the Pediatric unit after the ER. He ended up have pneumonia and some signs of asthma. He really hadn't had any symptoms before Monday morning. All Monday he slept and had breathing treatment. Tuesday was like he had never had it. He was doing so well, except for the small little crackling sound his lungs were making. So we stayed another night and on Wednesday (11/3) we were able to come home. His oxygen levels were normal, and everything was looking good. He is now on two inhalers, two antibiotics and something else. It was a scare, but I am so glad that we had the doctors who know what they are doing.
I am so happy to have my Maddox back to his happy self again (and that we get to sleep in our own beds tonight.)
